We had our school sponsored Fall Festival for the community last night.  I volunteered for the facepainting booth - so much fun!  The kids were adorable, with their hair falling all over their sweaty faces, turning up pink and brown cheeks a little warily to my unfamiliar hand.  Lots of snakes, flowers, balloons, hearts, sports teams, and the lone Playboy bunny.  I wasn’t really sure what a Playboy bunny looked like, let alone how to draw one, so I just drew a cute little bunny’s profile.  And not to worry!  It was a mother who requested that one.

And so!  After a 5 day weekend (not counting parent-teacher conferences and the professional development session this morning), I am a new woman, ready to return to the children tomorrow, with my best (most patient) face forward.  My stepmom (mother of four boys) once said: it’s not how patient you are, but how well you fake it.  So true!  The challenge tomorrow will be keeping a steady tone and painting an expression of composure  on my face, no matter what the children say or do.
